Oldway Gardens Volunteer Group.
Registered Charity Number 1196635
We are a group which is made up of 100% volunteers working to restore and maintain the wonderful outside spaces within the Oldway Mansion grounds..
We wish to see the Oldway Mansion Gardens restored to their once blissful state. This is something the volunteers give up their time to achieve. Ultimately we also wish to see Oldway Mansion restored and used by the people of Paignton.
We have been awarded an outstanding Level 5 in RHS South West in Bloom “It’s Your Neighbourhood Award” four years running, 2024, 2023, 2022 and 2021. Additionally in 2024 we were awarded the RHS South West in Bloom discretionary award, The Michael McGahey Trophy for exceptional community effort and the RHS Community Engagement award.
The RHS Community Engagement award is a brand new award and from all entries in the South West Region it means that we are put forward for the national awards in Manchester later this year.
We are now awaiting judging for 2025.
Well done and a Great Big Thank You to all our Volunteers.

Plant Stall
This is the Plant Stall we run, selling a wide variety of plants.
The profits go towards planting and maintaining the gardens at Oldway.
Please do come and give us a visit!
Tea Hut
We also have a new Tea Hut which sells tea, coffee, biscuits and ice creams. Whether it is a take away cup of tea or a coffee sat in our seating area - you will receive exceptional service from our dedicated volunteers - who all love Oldway.
All profits go towards keeping Oldway Gardens looking stunning.
History of the Tea Hut
The Tea Hut/Plant Stall has become a focal point for Oldway Gardens and raises much needed funds for the upkeep of the 17-acre gardens.
From its humble beginning in 2019 when it was a very old hut with no running water or electricity to what it has become today is an incredible achievement.
The dedication and hard work of the Oldway Gardens Group Volunteers has been the key to our brand-new Tea Hut now fully equipped with an electrical and water supply.
A recent extension of the Tea Hut has enabled the Plant Stall to operate side by side has added to this very successful venture of which we are all so proud.
All the money and skills needed to provide the new Tea Hut, build the extension, create a patio area for our friendship bench and defibrillator is due to the commitment of the Oldway Gardens Volunteers – they are all so loyal and very special.
The Oldway Tea Hut/Plant Stall is open Monday -Thursday 10am-1pm and all-day Friday: Saturday and Sunday.
There is a team of 18 dedicated Volunteers who cover the Tea/Hut Plant Stall on a regular basis and another 6 Volunteers who can provide cover for holidays and illness.
After a walk around the vast and majestic Oldway Gardens, please do come and give us a visit…have a browse at the Plant Stall, and a cup of tea, coffee, biscuit or ice cream at the Tea Hut.
2023/2024 Diary
A big thank you must go to one special volunteer, Linda, who keeps a permanent Diary record of all our events, community support, highlights, projects, sponsorship, successes, surprises, tasks, work schedules and ideas. She records our Diary year to run from July 2023 to June 2024 as this ties in to the South West in Bloom Judging year. Looking back over the past 12 months we cannot believe how far we have come since our group started in Autumn 2019. Without this Diary by Linda we would have no permanent record of our success. Thank you Linda for all your input and producing such marvellous testimony to the work at Oldway over the past four years.
Without the support of our wonderful volunteers, the local Community, our Facebook followers, Torbay Council and local businesses with their generous donations, the Oldway Mansion Gardens would not be the beautiful spectacle that they have now become. A truly remarkable achievement.
If you click on the link below it will take you to a copy of our 21/22 and 22/23 and 23/24Diary, we hope you are as impressed as we are!
